There is a difference between a sprain and a strain. Strain is an injury to muscle or to the band of tissue which attaches a muscle to the bone. Whereas sprain is an injury to the bands of tissue which connect two bones together.
Injury can cause pain, swelling, bruising, problems with joint mobility. In post traumatic state joint cannot be moved or bear weight on the affected joint. Pain can be felt directly over the bones of the injured joint. There can be numbness in any part of the injured area. Sprains or strains can be due to some misstep or from slipper or uneven surface. Could be from already fatigued muscle or wearing poorly fitted footware etc. But if there is a repeated history of sprains or strains then a thorough checkup is recommended.
